Browns Takeaways Week Two
The Cleveland Browns defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road, 18-13 on Sunday afternoon. Here are some of the key takeaways as the Browns picked up win number one on the year after bouncing from their Week One loss. The biggest takeaway is that quarterback Deshaun Watson had a better game than he had in Week One. In Week Two, Watson went 22 of 34, with 186 passing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Watson’s rush touchdown came on a designed quarterback run up the middle in a goal-to-goal situation. If anything, for all the money Cleveland paid him, his game today hits the bare minimum. Watson had some crucial throws to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy late, which helped burn more clock as the Browns nursed a three-point lead. However, Watson did have a play where he was under pressure, tried to throw the ball away, and nearly threw a costly interception.
The Browns’ defense contained quarterback Trevor Lawrence and company throughout the day. They gave up just one big play, a 66-yard pass from Lawrence to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. Cornerback Greg Newsome had solid man coverage on the play; Lawrence placed the ball right on the money to set up the Jaguars’ lone touchdown of the day. The Browns will look to build a win streak as they move on to face the New York Giants in Week Three.
