Cardinals Skid By in Wild Monday Night Football Matchup Against the Chargers
The Arizona Cardinals just got a much-needed win on their home field. In a Monday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Cardinals somehow managed to stay on top for most of this game, and once it seemed like they were down and out, Arizona surprised everyone by kicking the game-winning field goal. Now, Arizona has improved to 3-4, and in the NFC West picture, they are tied for second with the San Francisco 49ers. The Chargers, on the other hand, dropped to 3-3 after they hoped to gain some momentum. Los Angeles is in third within the AFC West behind the Denver Broncos and the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. Next week, the Cardinals will travel down to Miami for a match against the Dolphins, while the Chargers will head home for a matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
About three minutes into the second quarter the first points of the game would be scored as Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker knocked down a 59-yard field goal. A couple of minutes later, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Greg Dortch while kicker Chad Ryland hit the extra point to give Arizona a 7-3 lead. As time was expiring in the first half, Dicker kicked a 50-yard field goal making it a one-point game at halftime. With 40 seconds left in the third quarter, Dicker ripped his third field goal of the night, this time from 28 yards out. At the start of the fourth quarter, Murray would rush a 44-yard touchdown to allow the Cardinals to retake the lead at 14-9. About two minutes later, Dicker dropped his fourth field goal of the night with a 47-yarder. Less than two minutes in the game, the Chargers kicker hit his fifth and final field goal of the night, giving the Chargers a 15-14 lead. However, the Cardinals felt confident this was plenty of time to get into field goal range and seal off the win. Luckily for Arizona, that happened as Ryland knocked down a 32-yard field goal to give Arizona a 17-15 win.
Kyler Murray went 14 for 26 with 145 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also had six rushes for 64 yards and a touchdown. Cardinals running back James Connor had 19 rushes for 101 yards while tight end Trey McBride had five catches for 51 yards.
