Charlotte Flair vs. Tiffany Stratton: A Dream Match in Need of Better Storytelling

WWE

As WrestleMania 41 approaches, we are set to see an exciting match-up between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship. This match has the potential to be a classic, with two incredible athletes showcasing their unique in-ring styles on wrestling’s biggest stage. However, there’s been some disappointment in how the rivalry has been built up, especially when it comes to their back-and-forth leading up to the match. The hype hasn't quite matched the execution, and some fans are left wondering if the actual match will deliver the same intensity they’ve been hoping for.

The promos leading up to this match have been lackluster. Charlotte and Stratton just don’t have the chemistry needed to engage in verbal exchanges. While both are fantastic in the ring, their promo work hasn’t been able to create the kind of excitement fans were hoping for. This was especially evident on the April 4th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where their interaction felt uncomfortable. Stratton tried to bring up Charlotte’s personal life, mentioning her three divorces, in an attempt to get under her skin, but it felt forced and completely out of place, especially since it had no prior build-up and didn’t tie into the ongoing storyline. It seemed more like a desperate attempt to generate drama than an organic part of the rivalry.

Storylines in professional wrestling are most exciting when they unfold like a well-written movie, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Sadly, this feud doesn’t follow that formula. It feels rushed and forced, with all the attention focused on the dream match itself rather than the journey leading up to it. This WrestleMania season's weak storytelling has left fans with little emotional investment, making it tough to buy into the idea that this is a rivalry worth getting excited about.

If Charlotte and Stratton can overcome the issues with their promos and truly deliver in the ring, there’s still a chance for this match to be one of the standout moments at WrestleMania 41. Hopefully, it will be another Charlotte Flair WrestleMania classic match, that can even match up to her matches against the likes of Rhea Ripley, or Ronda Rousey. However, if they don’t bring their best, it might end up being remembered more for what it could have been rather than the action inside the ring. The potential is there, but it all depends on how they execute it.
