Chicago Bears Underwhelming Showing at Top Running Back Prospect’s Pro Day
The NFL has officially entered the Pro Day section of the offseason, which means plenty of up-close looks for all 32 teams to figure out who they’re drafting in late April. The Chicago Bears have had quite the offseason, upgrading their offensive line and adding some insurance to their defensive line. Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty has had his name linked with Chicago all offseason. With his Pro Day showing being completed on Wednesday, there wasn’t much representation from the Bears.
Chicago had just one regional scout in attendance, with notably their running back coach, Eric Bieniemy, not in attendance. Bieniemy has already been spotted around other Pro Days, choosing not to make the trip to Idaho. All NFL teams had some sort of representation at Jeanty’s Pro Day, with teams like the Las Vegas Raiders having multiple members, including their general manager. While it’s not any sort of hard indication that the Bears won’t be selecting Jeanty with their 10th overall pick, it’s a notable look considering their past patterns when it comes to their draft selections.
Just taking a look at their first-round selections last year, quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze, general manager Ryan Poles was in attendance for both Pro Days. The Bears do have a top-30 visit scheduled with Jeanty, which doesn’t eliminate any hope they aren’t taking a look at the star running back. Despite the future meeting between the two sides, it’s still an interesting decision not to have more eyes on Jeanty’s Pro Day performance. The NFL Draft is now just under a month away, where Bears fans will find out who will be joining a new Ben Johnson-led team.
