Comparing Mahomes vs. Hurts Leading into Super Bowl LIX

NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are heading back to the Super Bowl for a rematch! The spotlight will be on two of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL: Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs and Jalen Hurts of the Eagles. The two quarterbacks will go head-to-head, with Mahomes heading to his third straight Super Bowl and Hurts with his second Super Bowl appearance In three years. Both players have shown time and time again that they can handle the pressure of high-stakes games, making this matchup even more intense. Now being able to look back at the regular season, how do Mahomes and Hurts stack up against each other?

Patrick Mahomes had a very impressive regular season this year. Mahomes, who played in 16 games, led Kansas City to an outstanding 15-2 team record. They tie with the Detroit Lions for the best team record of the season. His ability to consistently perform under pressure was evident as he threw for a total of 3,928 yards, solidifying his reputation as one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. Mahomes’ ability to adapt in different game situations was a key factor in the Chiefs' dominance. He threw a total of 26 touchdowns this season, proving why he’s one of the top quarterbacks in the league and a constant threat to opposing defenses.

Jalen Hurts had a solid regular season with a few differences compared to his counterpart Patrick Mahomes. Hurts played in 15 games, just one less than Mahomes. He led the Eagles to a strong 14-3 record. Despite missing a game, Hurts still proved to be a reliable and effective quarterback, throwing for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns. While his numbers were slightly lower than Mahomes' in terms of yardage and touchdowns, Hurts’ dual-threat ability made him a dangerous weapon for the Eagles’ offense. Hurts' knee was injured in the Eagles’ Divisional Round victory. How his knee heals and affects his performance in the big game could have a significant impact on the Eagles' chances for success. That injury will be something to keep an eye out for leading into the big game.

Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts both had standout seasons in 2024, but with some notable differences in their performances. Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to a fantastic record, showcasing his remarkable playmaking skills. Hurts, meanwhile, guided the Philadelphia Eagles to a strong season despite playing one less game. His impressive dual-threat abilities made him a valuable asset to the Eagles’ offense, combining his passing and running to create a valuable dynamic. However, with Hurts suffering a knee injury, it raises questions about how it will impact his performance in the Super Bowl. Both players have demonstrated they can perform in high-pressure situations, making this Super Bowl matchup especially exciting. Ultimately, this head-to-head battle will be a thrilling test for both Mahomes and Hurts.
