New York Jets Trade Talks With All-Pro Wide Receiver Heat Up

NFL

Once again, the rumors of Aaron Rodgers reuniting with Davante Adams have gained attention. Up until this point, it seemed far-fetched that this move would get done, as Rodgers and the Jets have previously discussed it. Now, both parties continue to be in touch for a blockbuster trade that would load the Jets up with yet another weapon on the offense and NFL analysts seem to think that will be the case. Former quarterback Dan Orlovsky voiced his opinion on Get Up, saying that he thinks it’s a “done deal” that “Davante Adams plays for the Jets” at some point this season. Another former quarterback, Boomer Esiason, seems to think that time will be week one, figuring the Jets will make the move somewhere in late August or early September.

The trade would make sense for both parties involved. The Raiders, under a new head coach in Antonio Pierce, don’t have the tools to compete for a championship. Orlovsky makes a point in saying that the Raiders “don’t matter” until they find their franchise quarterback. On the other hand, the Jets have already gone all-in for a Super Bowl, so to make this work you must pull out all the stops. The only issue is the price tag that comes with a receiver of Adams caliber.

The Jets are already squeezed by the salary cap. New York must also decide on how much draft capital they are willing to give up for a 32-year-old wide receiver, especially as he would be paired with a 40-year-old quarterback. Adams remains a premier wide receiver and will likely require a first-round pick to obtain unless it becomes a mid-season trade after a slow start in Las Vegas, where the Raiders may accept slightly less. Either way, the Jets would have to push all their chips in to make this a reality.

If Orlovsky and Esiason speak the truth, the Jets would have all the tools and zero excuses not to bring New York a championship. The last time Rodgers and Adams were together was in 2021 when Rodgers won his fourth MVP, and the duo went for 124 receptions for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns. Adding Adams to the duo of Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams would immediately make the case for the best-receiving trio in the league. Pair that with a fully recovered Breece Hall, a revamped offensive line, and one of the most dangerous defenses in the league, an Adams to New York trade could be the difference maker.
