Dodgers Advance to World Series to Take on Yankees

MLB

The star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers are headed back to the World Series after defeating the New York Mets in the NLCS in six games. Unsung hero Tommy Edman had a home run and a double to drive in four runs during Sunday night’s clinching victory. Edman collected 11 total hits and drove in 11 runs over the course of the six-game series, earning himself the NLCS MVP award. This will be the Dodgers' first trip to the fall classic since the Covid-shortened season when they won it all over the Tampa Bay Rays.  Here is a recap of game six.

The game did not start well for the Dodgers. The Mets scored in the first inning after Pete Alonso singled to score Francisco Lindor, who walked to lead off the game. However, Los Angeles came right back, as Tommy Edman delivered a two-RBI double to put the Dodgers in front. This was the first lead change between the two teams all series up to that point. Edman would stay hot with a two-run homer in his next at-bat in the bottom of the third to make it 4-1, and then a few batters later, Will Smith followed suit with a two-run home run of his own to blow it open to a 6-1 Dodger lead. The feisty Mets would not go away without a fight, though, as Mark Vientos hit a two-run shot in the very next inning to get the lead down to just three runs. However, the Mets would leave the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, and then there was no looking back from the Dodgers. Shohei Ohtani delivered an RBI single to make it 7-3, and then they would pour it on in the bottom of the eighth with three more runs to put the game out of reach for good. The final score ended up being 10-5 in favor of Los Angeles.

Some major skeptics wondered if the Dodgers’ bullpen day approach in the playoffs was really going to work, but they executed it about as well as it could be done in a clinching game, no less. While the planned bullpen day is not a conventional postseason strategy, it could turn out to be an effective weapon for Los Angeles in the World Series, given the Dodgers’ lack of starting pitching depth. Speaking of the World Series, this year’s fall classic has about as much firepower and team history as a baseball fan could ask for: the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. These were the two best and most consistent teams all year, and both lineups are littered with all-stars, including some of the best players in the world. So, it is only right that they meet in the World Series to decide who will be the World Champions. Game one of the series will be on Friday in Los Angeles.
