Five-Time 20-Goal Scorer Signs with the Sabres
After being traded from the Arizona Coyotes to the Nashville Predators at the trade deadline last season, veteran winger Jason Zucker found success with the Predators as they pushed into the playoffs and played a hard-fought first-round series against the Vancouver Canucks, getting eliminated in six games. Although Zucker's production was lower than in 2022–23—he finished with just 14 goals, 18 assists, and 32 points—he still had a significant impact on the Predators in the postseason. Against the Canucks in their first-round series, Zucker registered 17 shots, two assists, and one goal. As one of just three Predators players, Zucker was on the ice for three goals scored by Nashville and none against during five-on-five action. Even though it was not anticipated that Zucker would sign a big deal during the free agency period, he demonstrated the impact he can still have on teams who are in contention. Now, the Buffalo Sabres have signed Zucker to a one-year deal, worth five million.
Zucker, 32, would be drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft and would play two collegiate seasons at the University of Denver from 2010-12. Zucker established himself throughout those two seasons with 45 goals, 46 assists, and 91 points. In 2012, he signed an entry-level deal with the Wild. Zucker's lightning-fast quickness and natural attacking sense would help him rapidly establish himself in the league. Zucker has accumulated 196 goals, 174 assists, 370 points, and 34 power-play goals over his 13-year NHL career.
Zucker has shown a steady ability to contribute offensively throughout his career, first with the Wild and then with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Coyotes, and Predators. He is a continuous danger in the rush thanks to his speed, and he excels in puck fights and forechecking thanks to his perseverance. Zucker will be a valued member of the Sabres thanks to his ability to create opportunities, score crucial goals, and contribute in all circumstances. Zucker will be an important member of the Sabres in their quest to make the Stanley Cup playoffs next season thanks to his established track record and seasoned expertise.
