Electric Goal Scorer Signs Deal with the Oilers
After an injury-plagued season with the Los Angeles Kings last season, winger Viktor Arvidsson, who brings a ton of skill and productivity to the table, entered free agency hoping to start over. Arvidsson managed just six goals, nine assists, and fifteen points in the 18 games he played in last season. Arvidsson's career has been marked by his ability to score goals, forecheck well, and contribute dynamically on the ice. Now, the Edmonton Oilers have signed Arvidsson to a two-year deal, worth eight million. The signing of Arvidsson will now provide the Oilers with a highly impactful winger heading into next season.
The Nashville Predators selected Arvidsson, 31, in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft. Arvidsson played five seasons in the Swedish hockey league before joining the NHL, where he scored 125 goals and established himself as a very potent scoring threat. After just eight goals in his first two seasons with the Predators, Arvidsson established himself in the league with a career-high 31 goals, 30 assists, and 61 points in the 2016–17 campaign. This breakout season helped him land his first mega free agent seven-year extension with the Predators. With a total of 127 goals, 112 assists, and 239 points in his seven seasons with the Predators, Arvidsson, along with former Predators center Ryan Johansen, was a major contributor to their offensive prowess.
In his last three seasons with the Kings, Arvidsson scored 52 goals, demonstrating his offensive firepower. However, Arvidsson has also experienced a number of ailments during his time with the Kings, which could have made some teams reluctant to take a chance and sign him given his history of injury. Despite these worries, Arvidsson has had a successful career as a game-changer while healthy and on the ice. When Arvidsson arrives for the upcoming season, the Oilers will enjoy using such a dynamic player in a variety of scenarios as they contend for the Stanley Cup.
