Five-Time Pro Bowler Signs with the Ravens

NFL

DeAndre Hopkins has had a long journey in the NFL. In his 12-year tenure, the wide receiver has been with the Houston Texans, the Arizona Cardinals, the Tennessee Titans, and his most recent destination with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is known for his ability to still win one-on-one matchups and make contested catches. Yet, his future with the Chiefs became uncertain as he entered free agency for the first time since his release from the Cardinals. Also, questions are swirling around the possibilities of Hopkins’ retirement. Through the uncertainty, Hopkins has decided to sign with the Baltimore Ravens for a one-year deal worth five million that could reach six million.

Hopkins' career has been impressive to say the least. Drafted by the Houston Texans in 2013, he quickly established himself as one of the most reliable and dynamic receivers in the league. His tenure with the Texans was highlighted by numerous Pro Bowl selections and record-breaking performances. In 2018, he recorded a 1,572-yard season with the Texans. After a controversial trade to the Arizona Cardinals, Hopkins continued to produce, proving that he could thrive in any offense. However, the Cardinals decided to release Hopkins to clear cap space.

Hopkins then joined the Titans in 2023 and signed a two-year, $26 million deal. During his tenure with the Titans, Hopkins started 19 of 23 games, posting 90 catches for 1,230 yards and eight touchdowns. However, his time in Tennessee was not without challenges. Hopkins faced injury issues early in the 2024 season and played in only six games, catching 15 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. Frustrated with his lack of opportunities and the team's performance, Hopkins requested a trade. The Titans obliged, and Hopkins landed with the Chiefs after a mid-season trade with the Tennessee Titans. Despite a less-than-ideal end to the Chiefs' Super Bowl run, Hopkins showed flashes of his brilliance, catching 41 passes for 437 yards and four touchdowns in just 10 games.

Now, DeAndre Hopkins embarks on another journey as his career winds down. As a veteran in the NFL, he provides a team with great leadership in the wide receiver position. After refuting retirement rumors in a since-deleted X post, it is clear that Hopkins still desires to win. In hopes of closing his illustrious career with a ring, he hopes to contribute to the Ravens’ success with his game knowledge and play-making ability.
