Former Bears Center Agrees to Deal with the Rams
The Chicago Bears may have added another body to the roster, but that usually means that someone else is getting moved. In this case, for the Bears, their current center Coleman Shelton has entered free agency once again. However, it did not take long before he was picked up again. This time Shelton will be playing with the Los Angeles Rams on a two-year deal. A surprise that came to everyone despite all of the teams that he has been with over the last several years of his career.
Shelton’s career began in the NFL back in 2018. He went undrafted but was picked up by the San Francisco 49ers. However, at the end of the 49ers’ training camp that year, the center was released. Following his release from San Francisco, Shelton was signed to the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad for the 2018 season. He stayed with them throughout the entire season and was cut at the end of their training camp in 2019. After being cut by the Cardinals, Shelton was picked up by the Los Angeles Rams in September, where he spent a majority of four seasons with them.
The center made his debut in Week Three of the 2019 season in the game against the Cleveland Browns. Shelton played 73 career games with 32 career starts for the Rams. After entering free agency once again, Shelton was picked up by the Bears on a one-year deal. His career has been one that has been full of ups and downs. He has in total appeared in 90 games for both the Rams and the Bears. He has only had one fumble that he has taken care of, and he was playing for the Bears when this occurred. Now that he’s with the Rams, he may be able to show more of what he can do. This might be the team for him that truly makes a difference.
