Former Heat, Raptor, Knick Agrees to Resign With the New York Knicks

NBA

During the first four years of his NBA career, Precious Achiuwa has played for three different teams, the Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, and the New York Knicks. While he was more of a scoring forward/center in his time with Toronto, he certainly showed his defensive capabilities during his time in New York. While the Knicks put up a great fight, they were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in seven games during the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Achiuwa became a free agent at the end of the season. Today, it was reported that the near 25-year-old has signed a deal with the New York Knicks.

Achiuwa was selected as the 20th pick by the Miami Heat during the 2020 NBA Draft. A year later, the Toronto Raptors acquired the power forward/center and Goran Dragić during a sign and trade deal for Kyle Lowry. He played two and a half seasons in Toronto before being traded once more, this time to the New York Knicks. Achiuwa, OG Anunoby, and Malachi Flynn were packaged in a deal in exchange for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a second round pick. Luckily for him, he will not need to adjust to a new system with the Knicks.

Last season in 74 games and 18 starts with both the Raptors, and the Knicks, Achiuwa averaged nearly eight points, seven rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block a game. During nine games and two starts with the Knicks during the 2024 NBA Playoffs, he averaged about five points, four rebounds, an assist, and a block a game. On February 14th in a matchup against the Orlando Magic, Achiuwa put up 23 points, and 14 rebounds during a 118-100 loss. The big question for the 24-year-old power forward/center is can his stock continue to trend upwards, and will he make a case to become a full-time starter with the Knicks?
