Former LSU Champion Offensive Guard Signs to the Panthers
For the past four seasons, Damien Lewis has been a key piece to the Seattle Seahawks offensive line. Although they clinched the final NFC playoff spot during the 2022 regular season, Seattle finished 8-8 this past season, just barely missing the playoffs. The former LSU champion offensive guard became a free agent at the end of the 2023 NFL season. Now, it’s been reported that Lewis has inked a four-year deal worth up to 53 million dollars with 26 million being guaranteed with the Carolina Panthers.
Damien Lewis played college ball at Northwest Mississippi Community College from 2016-2017. He graduated a semester early and continued his college football career at LSU. With the Tigers, he started all 15 games during his senior season and was named to the Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference as eventually, the Tigers would go on to win the 2020 College National Championship. The former LSU champion offensive guard was selected by the Seattle Seahawks as the 69th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Seattle Seahawks had one of the best offensive lines in the game and did a great job protecting their quarterback Geno Smith during the 2023 regular season. Seattle’s quarterbacks were sacked 38 times, which ranked 10th in the NFL. During his rookie season, Damien Lewis was considered one of the best run blockers in the game, next to six-time Pro Bowler Quenton Nelson. If the former LSU champion offensive tackle can get back to that level, the Panthers O-line will be mighty scary.
