Veteran Defensive Lineman Continues to be a Valuable Asset
It has been reported that Leonard Williams has signed a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth up to 21 and a half million dollars. Up until this past trade deadline Leonard Williams had spent his entire career at MetLife stadium playing for the Giants and Jets. Williams was drafted sixth overall out of USC and was one of the best prospects in the 2015 draft class. While he didn't start his career too hot with a subpar rookie year. By his second year in the league, he was the best defensive lineman on the Jets and recorded seven sacks. That same year he was also named a Pro Bowler.
Throughout his career, he has been a valuable asset for whichever defensive line he has been on. His most recent stint has been with the Seahawks where he was traded at the deadline this past season. In only eight games with the Seahawks, he recorded four sacks. His best game this past season came against the San Francisco 49ers where he recorded a sack and multiple quarterback hits and hurries to go along with that. His efforts led the Seahawks to a surprisingly close game against one of the NFL’s best teams this past year.
For the longtime defensive lineman, his best years came with the New York Giants rather than the Jets, the team that drafted him. His best season was the 2020 season in which he recorded 11.5 sacks yet oddly was not named to the Pro Bowl. With the Seahawks this upcoming season he has a chance to recreate these same numbers. This past season he still showed the speed and agility he was known for coming out of college. If Williams goes on to have a Pro Bowl type of year once again don't be too surprised.
