Francisco Lindor Joins Elite Company with 30 Homer Season

MLB

Francisco Lindor has joined an elite club with his most recent homer. On Tuesday in the bottom of the third inning, Lindor launched his 30th home run of the season to put his name in the history books. He joins Alex Rodriguez and Ernie Banks as the only shortstops in MLB history to have five or more seasons with 30 or more home runs. He has tied Ernie Banks with five seasons and trails A-Rod who has seven seasons of 30 or more.

Lindor is having one of the best seasons of his career at age 30. He now has the fifth 30-home-run season of his career, in which he is also batting .271 with a 135 OPS+, which would be the best of his career. He has not had a season this good since 2019, his last full season with the Cleveland Guardians organization. In that year he was an All-Star, won a Gold Glove, and finished 15th in MVP voting for the American League. Now, he can add this great accomplishment to his outstanding career. He is also currently second behind Shohei Ohtani in the NL MVP rankings. If it were not for Ohtani, who is likely to start the 50 home run 50 stolen base club this year, then Lindor would more than likely be the frontrunner for MVP.

Lindor’s magical season is one the Mets have been waiting for ever since his arrival. He has had some good seasons but none compare to the one he is having in 2024. With Lindor’s help, the Mets have pulled within half a game of the Braves for the last NL Wild Card spot. The Mets look to stay hot down the stretch and compete for one of the NL Wild Card positions. At the end of September, they travel to Atlanta in what could be a Wild Card deciding series. If Lindor continues to have the magical season he is, then you can expect the Mets to be in the playoffs at the end of the 2024 season.
