Giant’s Cowboys Thanksgiving Loss Takeaways

NFL

The Giants and The Cowboys played an interesting game for the 2024 edition of their Thanksgiving game. The Giants suffered another loss this week in a final score of 27-20. The Giants actually put the effort in and took things to a new level despite losing again for this week's game. They had some changes on the field that helped them play better than they have this week. Here are the top three takeaways from this game.

1. Drew Lock Turned Things Around

Tommy DeVito did not play in the Thanksgiving game. He suffered a forearm injury in last week's game against the Buccaneers. This week, Drew Lock stepped in to cover for him in the quarterback position. He made a tremendous difference on the field. This week, the Giants were actually able to move the ball up the field. In the first quarter, the Giants actually had the lead for a little bit of time. Lock was making contact with several men on the field. He managed to get it out to Malik Nabers, one receiver that the fans haven’t seen really have explosive plays since Week Three when the team first played Dallas this season.

Lock was also a big help on the field. He ran for 51 yards, scoring two touchdowns for the Giants. He completed 21 of 32 passes in this game. Lock really made a difference on the field; the Giants had more points than they have had in a long time. Things really looked up with him playing on the field. Hopefully, the Giants will be able to make decisions on him being a starting quarterback going forward.

2. The Offensive Line Needs to Stop Making Mistakes

It did not matter how many great plays the Giants had in this game; something was always going wrong for them. They would finally get a really great play going on the field, and then it would be called back due to someone getting a holding call or another call by the refs. They did the best they could, but it was on nearly every play that was made. However, these easy mistakes could have been avoided. Evan Neal in the left tackle position seems to be one of the bigger issues, and he was getting several calls along with others.

3. The Defensive Came Up from The Bottom

The defense in this game was a little bigger than it had been. They were able to make most of the stops. However, there were times when they were still struggling. It was not only the offense that was getting bad calls, it was also the defense, too. They kept on top of each one of the Cowboys receivers. They did have several areas when Rico Dowdle or others would blow through their defensive line, but the Giants were able to stop him to a certain degree. They were not just letting their opponent run them over. If they continue to play like this for the rest of the season, it will be a magnificent difference in the rest of their games for the season.
