Giants Finalize QB Decision for Saints Matchup
The quarterback position has not been all that great this season. Following the release of Daniel Jones, finding someone who could fill the spot for the Giants has been pretty hard. The Giants made the original decision to start Tommy DeVito in Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that completely backfired on them. DeVito was also beaten up on the field by the Buccaneers’ defense and suffered a forearm injury, making him unable to play in up-and-coming games.
The Giants then decided to put in Drew Lock the following week in Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys for the Thanksgiving game. Lock had an amazing game, and he had been waiting to start for the team nearly all season. He took the reins and got the Giants pretty close to a win against Dallas. They still suffered another loss with a final score of 27-20, but the Giants pulled through most of the way in this game with the help of Lock. He proved that he was different than DeVito and Jones by showing that he could take charge and make things happen on the field. He found open players and made sure that he made contact with them. He knows his way around the plays and has always had a plan, even when he was with his former teams.
Lock had previously been with other teams, such as the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. He was picked by the Broncos in the second round as the 42nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He suffered a thumb injury and was out the first few weeks, but when he returned, he threw 134 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception during this game and led the Broncos to his first NFL victory. Following that was his time in Seattle, where he competed with Geno Smith for the starting position. He became number two and never saw action after that. A year after that, Lock came to the Giants on a one-year, five-million-dollar deal. Lock made sure the Giants knew he wasn’t in competition with the former quarterback despite how great many knew he could be.
Lock showed a lot of promise during his first regular season game against Dallas when the Giants finally put him in. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards, with an interception that was returned for the Giants. He also added a team-leading 57 yards rushing and a touchdown. Adding to the excitement that New York hasn’t really seen all season. It was the game that cemented everything for the coaching staff, and they have decided to start Lock in the upcoming games. If DeVito is well enough to play, he will be the backup quarterback against the New Orleans Saints. Hopefully, New York can get at least one more win this season and not sink to the bottom of the NFL.
