Giants Sustain Two Season-Ending Injuries
After their Thanksgiving loss to the Cowboys and their season already lacking success, it couldn’t have gotten worse. The New York Giants have placed both Dexter Lawrence and Theo Johnson on the season-ending injured reserve. The team was officially eliminated from playoff contention, but these injuries can affect the team for far longer. Here are some impacts and guys expected to step up in their absence
With Dexter Lawrence’s season over, the Giants will have a big void to fill on their defensive line. Dallas ran wild with Rico Dowdle running for over 100 yards and a touchdown on Thanksgiving and running backs will continue to do so as the All-Pro is absent. The Giants will look to nose tackle Jordon Riley and end Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Elijah Chatman to pick the slack. Fortunately for the Giants, the season doesn’t last much longer, but unfortunately, Lawrence was one of if not the biggest difference maker on this defense. Lawrence finishes the year with 44 total tackles, nine sacks, and one forced fumble.
The Giants took a shot on Theo Johnson in the fourth round out of Penn State. Though he didn’t get much volume, Johnson showed some upside when he was given the opportunity. He caught 29 of his 43 targets for 331 yards and a touchdown. The Giants tight end room will turn to Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz, and recently signed off waivers Greg Dulcich. Theo Johnson looks to return next year and break out as a guy this offense can trust.
