A New Day Dawns: The New Day’s Shocking Heel Turn
For months now, the WWE Universe has been expecting a few things from The New Day. Whether that’s Kofi Kingston or Xavier Woods turning heel or the long-tenured group being broken up after their 10 years of existence. During the December 2nd episode of Monday Night Raw, we saw the two in the ring together after the disaster they had the previous week losing to the Alpha Academy’s Otis and Akira Tozawa in about 30 seconds. Both were extremely surprised when their New Day ally Big E made a return to the squared circle during their New Day reunion and he’s been out after suffering a cervical fracture of the spine in March 2022. E was extremely upset about how Kingston and Woods acted, argued, and bickered at each other for the past several months and because of that, E announced he would stick by the two every week as their manager. In a shocking manner, both Kofi and Xavier turned their back on their former New Day partner. They told E that he betrayed their New Day family, and he prefers his desk job as a commentator more than he prefers both Kingston and Woods. Both asked the former WWE Champion where he had been all this time and why he hadn’t been there helping out the tag team in the first place. Both Kingston and Woods were adamant about this decision and in a surprising twist, both turned heel and gave up on their former friend.
This segment on Monday Night Raw begs many questions, will we ever see Big E be medically cleared? How does this storyline shape up within the coming weeks? If somehow, E was medically cleared after almost three years of not competing would we see the likes of Big E taking on both Kingston and Woods in a two-on-one handicap match? Would this be a WrestleMania 41 match? While the biggest storylines of the episode had to do with CM Punk and Seth “Fricking” Rollins, this segment was clearly the most shocking and had every fan in the audience within Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett Washington at a loss for words. It was absolutely a swing from left field having both Kingston and Woods turning heel. For the longest time, it seemed like just Xavier Woods would turn on his allies, but to have both Kofi and Xavier turn made the show a whole lot more interesting.
We can only imagine how next week’s episode is going to turn out. How would Kofi and Xavier justify their action from this past week? Both are going to hear the switch very quickly from “New Day Rocks” to “New Day Sucks”. This is going to be a completely new group, one that we have never seen before. The New Day was built on positivity and lifting each other’s spirits, but now their new thing might be to push people down to their lowest level, just as both Kofi and Xavier have felt over the past couple of months. On one of the wildest episodes of Monday Night Raw, we witnessed a beloved tag team now become angry, and jealous, plus do something we never thought was imaginable. How will Big E recover from these hurt feelings? Will E ever be medically cleared?
