Giants Triumph Over Colts but Suffer Draft Pick Setback
The Giants have been known to do exactly the opposite of what their fans want. Fans have been cheering that they lose for the rest of the season so they can obtain the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. For a few weeks, the Giants had the first pick in their grasp until the team managed to surprise everyone this week when they sunk the Indianapolis Colts’ slim playoff hopes and won on Sunday afternoon, 45-33. This win may be great, and it may have a handful of the fans cheering, but it alters the Giants’ draft pick position in next year’s draft.
The team went from having the number one draft pick to being moved down to the third pick in the first round. This pick was supposed to be crucial for the Giants to start over and continue the rebuild. Many had hoped that they would hold onto it and they would be able to draft a new quarterback, considering that Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle all walk when the season is over. That is the area the Giants need to focus on the most, and now they may have to go with someone else to fill the position. This was not a good time for the Giants actually to put together a win, if they had done it earlier in the season, it would be different, and there would be no issues.
Now that the Giants have moved down to the third pick and the New England Patriots moved into the number one spot after the Raiders and Jaguars also won this past week. The Giants may still be able to draft someone decent to fill the position. They may not be getting exactly who they wanted, but there's still hope for the Giants during the off-season. Plenty of quarterbacks may be available, and a majority of them are entering into free agency in the offseason. It’s up to the Giants’ general manager, Joe Schoen, to make those decisions, though, before anything else happens. He hasn’t made a lot of moves.
The Giants have been altering their status in every avenue since the season started earlier this year. They may have had a moment to shine this week and prove that they have still got it. However, it does have a ripple effect, and in this case, it was not a great one. Hopefully, the Giants can still move back up before it’s too late and not drop themselves down in the first round any further for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
