Golf 2025 Player Prediction: Rory McIlroy
There was a good balance of surprise wins, dominant performances, heartbreaks, and life-changing moments in the professional golf world in 2024. We had players go on historic runs, players reach new highs, and players reach new lows. These professional golfers gave the fans a little bit of everything in 2024, so what can we expect from them in 2025? Who will win the 2025 Majors? Will someone dominate the year? Whose game will fall off? Here is the 2025 Player Prediction for Rory McIlroy.
Official World Golf Ranking: Third
Wins: Four - Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Zurich Classic, Wells Fargo Championship, SP World Tour Championship
Major Wins: Zero - N/A
2024 Summary
For any other professional golfer, the 2024 season from Rory McIlroy would be a successful one. He had two wins, finished in the top 10 seven times, and only missed the cut once in 19 events played on the PGA Tour. Add two more wins, seven more top 10s, and no missed cuts while playing in the DP World Tour, including the DP World Tour Championship. The problem is that McIlroy is hunting down major wins, not just tour wins. Unfortunately for him, the major win drought continues on and is currently sitting at 11 years. He came extremely close yet again, finishing solo second in the U.S. Open, missing a couple of short putts down the stretch. McIlroy ranked third in strokes gained total, fourth in strokes gained off the tee, and second in driving distance. He is currently ranked third in the official world golf rankings.
2025 Prediction
That fifth major win has eluded McIlroy for 11 years, but 2025 could be his best chance yet at finally getting his hands on another trophy. He’s been hit or miss in the Masters, finishing tied for fifth in 2021, second in 2022, missing the cut in 2023, and tied for 22nd in 2024, but he’ll have a real good chance at the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played at Quail Hollow in North Carolina where he won the Wells Fargo Championship at in 2021 and in 2024. He’s actually won there a total of four times and made the top ten eight times in 12 events, dating back to 2010. He strikes the ball as good as anybody in the world, and if he can get the pressure of winning another major off his shoulders, the floodgates may just open up for him again. My prediction for Rory McIlroy in 2025 is five or more total wins, including at least one major, potentially the PGA Championship and The Open Championship, which will be held in his home country of Northern Ireland, and that he will finish the year as a top-three player in the world, potentially at number one.
