Career Wins: Six
Career Major Wins: Zero
Career Summary
The Chilean native turned pro in 2018 and has won a total of six times in his career. The six include twice on the PGA Tour, twice on LIV, once on the DP World Tour, and once on the Asian Tour. He is coming off of his best year yet in 2024, where he won twice on LIV at Mayakoba and Jeddah and in the top five seven times in 13 events played. On top of the LIV wins, he also won the PIF Saudi International in 2024. The Majors, however, did not look as good as it should have been for the 26-year-old. Out of the four Majors of the year, Niemann finished tied for 22nd at the Masters, tied for 39th at the PGA Championship, did not qualify for the U.S. Open, and tied for 58th at the Open Championship. His best finish out of the 21 Majors he competed in came in the 2023 Masters, where he finished tied for 16th, and he has missed the cut seven times. The Chilean was on the 2019 Presidents Cup International Team and competed for the Chilean National team at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. On LIV, Niemann ranked first in total birdies, first in total eagles, third in greens in regulation, and second in driving distance. He is currently the 72nd-ranked player on the official world golf rankings, but it should be noted that, as of the time of this article, LIV events are not awarded OWGR points.
2025 Expectations
Niemann has all the physical attributes to compete at any event he tees it up at, including the Majors, but he does need to sharpen his skill around and on the green. While he’s top tier on LIV in ball striking, he’s ranked eighth in putting and 14th in scrambling. His DP World Tour stats also back this up, with him being top-tier off the tee and in approach play but average to below average in putting and scrambling. Tightening things up on and around the greens would make him an absolute force to be reckoned with week to week. If he wants to get into the next level of premiere talent, Niemann will have to start contending at the Majors. With the PGA Tour and LIV still being divided, the four Majors are the only times the best players in the world all play together, so if he wants to be in the “best in the world” conversations, he’ll have to play better in those events. My expectations for Joaquin Niemann for 2025 are three plus wins between LIV, DP World Tour, and Asian Tour events, his best Major finish will be at the Masters with a top 10 finish, but he won’t contend at any of the other Majors, and he won’t break into the top 50 on the official world golf rankings as long as LIV events still don’t count towards it.
