The 2025 men’s professional golf season is now up and running and, if it’s anything like the 2024 season, we’ll be in for an exciting mix of dominant performances, stunning upsets, and career-defining moments. Which rising stars will solidify themselves amongst the game’s elite? Which seasoned veteran will struggle to find their form? Who will win the 2025 Majors? Here is the 2025 player profile for Sam Burns.

Current Official World Golf Ranking: 22nd

Career Wins: Five

Career Major Wins: Zero

Career Summary

Burns turned pro in 2017 and has won a total of five times on the PGA Tour. His best season came in the 2021-22 season when he won three times, and had one runner-up, eight top 10s, and 14 top 25s. His wins came at the Sanderson Farms Championship, the Valspar Championship, and the Charles Schwab Challenge. Burns’ other two wins came at the Valspar Championship in the 2020-21 season and the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play in the 2022-23 season. His Majors record has been less than stellar, with his best finish coming at the 2024 U.S. Open, where he tied for ninth. In 17 Majors played, Burns has missed the cut six times and has withdrawn once. The Masters specifically has been challenging for him. In the three events he’s played at Augusta National, he’s missed the cut twice and he finished tied for 29th in the one cut he made. Burns also made the Presidents Cup U.S. Team in 2022 and 2024 and made the U.S. Ryder Cup Team in 2023. The 27-year-old from Louisiana is currently ranked 24th in strokes gained total, 89th in strokes gained off the tee, 130th in strokes gained on approach, 46th in strokes gained around the green, and 10th in strokes gained putting. He is currently the 22nd-ranked player on the official world golf rankings.

2025 Expectations

Burns has played in two tour events so far in 2025. He played the Sentry in Hawaii where he finished tied for eighth and he played the American Express in California where he finished tied for 29th. On a week-in, week-out basis the LSU graduate can turn it on and win any tour event, especially with how good he is on the putting surface. His ball striking, however, does need to drastically improve if he wants to get back into the winner’s circle and/or actually contend in one of the four Majors. The expectations for Sam Burns for the remainder of the 2025 season are zero to one tour wins, will finish in the top five at one of the Majors, maybe the U.S. Open, will make the U.S. Ryder Cup Team as a Captain’s Pick, and finish a top 20 player on the official world golf rankings.
