Hard Hitting Safety Finds New Team

NFL

It has been reported that former Carolina Panther Jeremy Chinn has signed a deal with the Washington Commanders. Not so long ago the Panthers thought they had the steal of the 2020 NFL draft with Chinn after he finished second in Rookie of the Year voting after an incredible rookie season. In his rookie season, he amassed 117 tackles and even had two touchdowns in the same game. People believed he was truly the next coming of former Seahawk Kam Chancellor. Yet since that season Chinn’s play has slowly been on a steady decline along with playing time.

Jeremey, while great in the run game has had many issues in pass coverage allowing passer ratings over his first three years over 100. While Chinn would make a great linebacker you would think, he just simply has not had a chance to play the position. Jeremy is almost the exact same height and weight as Foyesade Oluokun, a recent breakout superstar at the position. It is up to Washington to truly get the best out of him and resurrect his playing career. Whether that's as a safety or a linebacker is still to be seen.

This contract could set up Chinn for major success as during his time on the Panthers he was surrounded by a very lackluster secondary. With some higher-level players around him, it could force him to elevate his game as well. Coming out of Mississippi State in 2020 Chinn had huge expectations maybe not to be a star but to be a solid starter. Now with very little expectation after a down year, it could almost be good for Chinn who will now be under the radar and be able to surprise the people who doubted him.
