Has the Giants Hot Seat Reached a Boiling Point?
The New York Giants have had a season. It has been a bad season, as a matter of fact. They currently sit at the bottom of the league with a 2-12, and fans are cheering at this point to go for a first-round pick. There has been one thing after another with this team, and they officially have hit rock bottom with no wins at home this season and the loss of three quarterbacks, and now they are onto a practice squad quarterback, Tim Boyle. The 2024 Giants have also been named one of the worst teams in their 100-year history.
Giants owner John Mara said several weeks ago that he does not intend to let general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll go at the end of the season. However, he has been patient with both of them and at this point, he is running out of steam with them. Many promises over the years for fans have been kept. On the other hand, they have also been broken too. There is a possibility that this one may get broken before the end of the season. Schoen and Daboll are both on five-year contracts for the Giants. That does not mean that they need to stay together. They’ve done a decent job trying to fix things for the team, but it's not enough at this point.
Daboll seems to have stepped up before the end of the season. Despite all of the losses, the offensive line is playing much better than they have been in a while. They move the ball down the field, but they panic while they are in the red zone. This team is still very young. There is nothing else Daboll can do at this point other than wait to see what happens. He tries, but it’s not enough to make his team look much better than they should be.
Schoen has been quiet, and it’s not what anyone wants to know from the Giants front office. He has not made any noise about trades and signings and what to do for the Giants. He was even quiet before the trade deadline earlier this season when he should have been making the moves that he should have. It’s been disappointing for the Giants franchise and the fans. They watched good players both come and move on right by the Giants, and it’s just been frustrating for everyone.
These two have been showing the Giants owner that they cannot manage anything that’s happening with the Giants. The locker room has their doubts, and so does everyone else. They are leaving Mara no choice but to let them go by the end of the season. Not only will they need to rebuild the New York Giants team, but they will also need to fix the coaching staff and the front office. There’s a possibility of hope for at least one of them at the end of the season.
