How Darius Slayton Can Step up as the Next Malik Nabers During His Absence
It takes a village for a team to win a football game. The Giants managed to pull off another win this past weekend. Malik Nabers was out, but several other bodies stepped in to cover for him. Surprisingly, it took several guys to replace one man on their team. Nabers did have one team member, Darius Slayton, who stepped in for him to make things happen on the field.
Despite not having done very well all season, Slayton took the reins in this past weekend's game against the Seahawks. In his past seasons with the Giants, he often received the ball from Daniel Jones poorly. This weekend's game has usually had pretty decent stats while he has been playing. He has only played in four games this season, but if it wasn’t for his concussion, it would have been five. So far, Nabers has 35 receptions for 52 targets in all of these games. He also has three touchdowns in total from his career thus far, something not many rookie players have gotten to do in their starting careers.
Slayton had stepped in for Nabers, despite how many other people were on the field trying to cover. Slayton may no longer be a rookie but he did make a difference for the team this weekend. Slayton was actually able to catch the ball on several different occasions this weekend. He matched Nabers and became the top receiver in this past weekend's game. Slayton recorded 122 yards on eight catches. In the process of that, he managed to score a 30-yard touchdown pass. Something that Nabers has managed to easily do. If Slayton keeps this up, both he and Nabers may be able to go head-to-head and bring the Giants more wins for the season.
It definitely looked good on the field for them. It was almost as if the Giants weren’t missing anything at all. Nabers and Slayton play the exact same way. Neither is better than the other, but they will do great if they keep playing the way they did. It would be great for the Giants.
