If The Giants Trade Up, Is It Considered Desperation?

NFL

The 2025 NFL Draft is almost less than a month away. The New York Giants have been accomplishing the best they can in trying to find someone in free agency who can fill their vacant starting quarterback position. At this point, they are grasping at straws to get whoever they can which has led to a complete standstill. There have been talks around the NFL of this Giants team trading up to get the first overall pick. Many fans who follow Big Blue have plenty of thoughts about if the Giants decide to do this. New York would have both an upside and a downside that might have the team suffering consequences for going after the first overall draft pick.

The upside to the Giants trading up is they would be able to get the quarterback that everyone has been hoping they would get, Cam Ward. A young and bold quarterback who has got nothing to lose. In college, this quarterback has already played for three different teams and appeared in 57 games. This past season, Ward has posted stats such as 4,313 yards, and 39 touchdowns, yet he has had only seven interceptions in total. He’s the dream quarterback that many people have been hoping to pick up if they can’t find a veteran to fill the position before then. If the Giants trade up to number one, they would be able to get their guy and be set for the season.

The downside for the Giants is if they do decide to make this trade up, around the league it would not be a great look for them. With how many moves they have been making with trying to talk to almost every free-agency veteran quarterback, it would make them look pretty desperate at this point. They are also picking up whoever they can and not making offers to big-name players that should be put on the team that hasn’t played well for the last several seasons. The team is falling apart and has been at its worst since the end of last season when Daniel Jones parted ways with the team. Going for the number one spot would not be the best idea for them but it would still be something.

The Giants are going to do what's best for the team for the new season. They will either progress or decline more with whatever they decide to do. They don’t need to be desperate, but they just need to start making things happen. Whoever they end up with they are going to make it work. They just need to make the right decisions.
