Why The Giants Need to Get Off the Aaron Rodgers Train Before It’s Too Late

NFL

The Giants are currently meeting with quarterback after quarterback. They’ve already met with Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, and now Jameis Winston. The one person that the Giants are waiting on a decision from is none other than Aaron Rodgers. He’s currently taking his time to decide where he is going to go next. This former Super Bowl Champion was last seen walking along the beach while thinking about what to do with this upcoming season. No one knows if he wants to retire or if he wants to come in and play for another team after the New York Jets released him at the beginning of the offseason.

The Giants need to move on from him and many have made it known that Big Blue needs to pick someone else up. General Manager Joe Schoen is currently sitting back and has told the franchise and the fans that the Giants will wait longer for Rodgers to make a decision. The management is banking on him for the team for this year. Not a move that many people are happy about. The Giants need to get off of the Rodgers train before it’s too late. They have plenty of other options that they can choose from. The Steelers who have also spoken to him are also running out of steam with the quarterback and are about to pick someone else. The Giants need to start doing the same.

He may still have a gunslinger’s arm, but this veteran player is struggling at this point. He doesn’t use the arm in every game. Rodgers had to be let go at the end of the past season because he could no longer pass the physical while he was with New York. Rodgers finished the season 5-12 and shortly after that was when they let him go. There seems to be little reason for him to continue playing at this stage in his career. Rodgers spent nearly his entire career with the Green Bay Packers before joining the Jets. Although signed for three seasons with New York, he only played one due to an injury early in his first season.

If that happened for the Jets, what makes the Giants think that this will not happen for them? Adding a 41-year-old veteran to a young team may not be ideal. While Flacco, Winston, and Wilson are also veterans and carry some risk, they aren’t facing the same health concerns as Rodgers, making them a safer choice. If they can’t sign a veteran, they should just draft a new quarterback.

The Giants should avoid taking on this former MVP. Adding Rodgers would be a big risk, especially since they're already taking chances in free agency and the upcoming draft. The Giants need someone committed, not a player who might string them along and leave them hanging. Hopefully, they can fill the position with someone reliable soon.
