Jets Overcome Texans During a Climatic Fourth Quarter

NFL

Starting off Week Nine, we saw the Houston Texans take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. New York needed a big win here after dropping to 2-6 from last week’s close-knitted loss to the New England Patriots. Luckily for the Jets, a climatic showdown in the fourth quarter led the Jets to 14 points in the final 15 minutes of action to overcome Houston in a 21-13 bout. The Jets improve to 3-6, while the Texans fall to 6-3. Next week, the Jets will play the Arizona Cardinals, while the Texans will go back home for a matchup with the Detroit Lions.

We did not see any scoring in this game until late in the second quarter, as both teams’ defense kept each other on edge. With less than four minutes in the first half, Texans running back Joe Mixon rushed in for a three-yard touchdown. Ka’imi Fairbairn knocked in the extra point to make it a 7-0 game heading into halftime. Six minutes into the third quarter, the Jets would tie the game up when quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to receiver Garrett Wilson, and kicker Riley Patterson kicked in the extra point to make it a seven-all game. Fairbairn ripped a 54-yard field goal to give Houston a 10-7 lead with four minutes left in the third. During the fourth quarter, Wilson caught another touchdown pass, this time for 26 yards, and with Patterson hitting the extra point, New York had a 14-10 lead. About 10 minutes later, Rodgers hurled a 37-yard touchdown pass to receiver Davante Adams. With Patterson kicking the extra point successfully, the Jets lead 21-10, closing in on the final two-minute warning. With 39 seconds left on the clock, Fairbairn closed in on a 29-yard field goal to make it a final score of 21-13.

Rodgers went 22 for 32 with 211 passing yards and three touchdowns. Jets running back Breece Hall had 15 carries for 74 yards. Adams had seven receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Wilson caught nine passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns. C.J. Stroud went a grueling 11 for 30 with 191 passing yards. Mixon rushed the ball 24 times for `06 yards and a touchdown. Texans receiver Tank Dell finished the game with six receptions for 126 yards in the loss. One of the biggest problems for Houston was the offensive line giving up eight sacks on their quarterback.
