Packers vs. Lions Preview
Last week, the Packers finished out their AFC South beatdown with a win over the Jaguars. It was by no means a perfect or clean win, but a win nonetheless. The game may have been tighter than Green Bay would have preferred, but they sealed the deal with another field goal. Despite the ups and downs, the Packers look to their next opponent, the Lions.
Currently, the Lions are at the top of the NFC North, but the Packers are right on their heels. The winner of this matchup will take the lead in what many consider the toughest division in the NFL. This isn’t just a rivalry game, as both teams are potential Super Bowl contenders. It’s a perfect chance for the Packers to wake up anyone still sleeping on them.
In the last game, Jordan Love injured his groin in the third quarter, leaving uncertainty about his status for this Sunday. Not many expected that injury, including Malik Willis, but he stepped in without missing a beat. He kept his cool and made a 51-yard throw to a wide-open Jayden Reed, setting up Brandon McManus for the game-winning field goal. On big stages, the lights aren’t too bright for Willis, who boasts a completion rate of 74.4 percent while making plays with both his legs and arms. Matt LaFleur’s playcalling is creative but requires execution, and Willis delivers when he’s under center. He also benefits from a strong supporting cast. Running back Josh Jacobs has 667 rushing yards, ranking fourth in the league. According to PFF, he’s second in the NFL for yards after contact and fourth in missed tackles forced and runs of 10+ yards. Willis has pass-catchers like Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks who can all make plays.
The Lions are coming in hot after a dominant win over the Titans. The Packers will need to step up their game. Having their starting quarterback against a division rival would be ideal, but it’s just as important to avoid making the injury worse. Whether it’s Love or Willis, the Packers need to be ready to deliver.
