Quarterback Expectations for ‘24-25

NFL

The NFL season is approaching and it’s time to dive into the most prominent position in football: quarterback. Let’s take a look at some of the top quarterbacks in the game, look at their resumes, and determine the expectations for them this season. Starting with three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes, he’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer if he retired right now. At this point, he’s chasing Joe Montana and Tom Brady in the number of rings.

Now heading to Baltimore. Lamar Jackson is a two-time MVP that has made one conference championship game. He’s had multiple playoff runs derailed due to injuries. Jackson has had a lights-out defense but not the same supporting cast on the offensive side of the ball as his peers. Jackson will expect to take the Ravens back to the playoffs and elevate his teammates.

Onto Cincinnati. Joe Burrow has put up consistent numbers each year, even before going down with a season-ending injury. Each year Burrow has been healthy, the Bengals have found themselves in the conference championship game. Burrow has had an elite group of wide receivers around him. In seven playoff games, his defense has never given up under 25 points. He’s also taken a bottom-five offensive line deep in the postseason. Burrow will expect to put up MVP numbers and make another deep playoff run.

In Buffalo, there’s Josh Allen. Allen led the league in touchdowns scored but was also second in interceptions last year. He had an outstanding wide receiver in Stefon Diggs to feed the football to. His defense has been top five in points per game given up the last three seasons. However, Allen has had the unfortunate luck of running into Mahomes three times in the playoffs. Allen will expect to lean into his running backs for run support, as he’s been the primary runner in Buffalo’s offense and beat the best of the best to get to the Super Bowl.

In the NFC is Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts has played behind the best offensive line in football in the last two years. He’s had an elite defense to lean on. Hurts is a dynamic playmaker in the open field. Hurts’ expectations will be to beat defenses with his IQ and get the Eagles back to the Super Bowl. Expectations are skyrocketing high for these elite quarterbacks.
