Last Night, Both of These NL West Teams Were on Fire!

MLB

Last night, we saw two teams from the National League West division go off against their opponents. The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres were on fire, recording 10-plus runs and 20-plus hits in their respective victory. The NL West is currently led by the 61-41 Los Angeles Dodgers who lead the division by eight games over the Padres. While San Diego looks to compete with Los Angeles on top of the NL West, Colorado is eager to show they’re a better team than what their record shows during this second half of the season. With close to two months of regular season action, anything could happen.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies offense finally showed out during the final game of their six-game home stand and final game of their three-game series with the Boston Red Sox. Center fielder Brenton Doyle went two for four with five RBIs, and catcher Jacob Stallings went three for four with four RBIs during a 20-7 win. Rockies starter Cal Quantrill pitched six innings allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters in the win. Six Rockies batters recorded a multi-hit game. After struggling for so long, it must have felt great for this offense to prove they're capable of tying the team’s franchise record with the most runs scored in a single game. A few months ago, this team went on a winning streak before their season was completely torn apart. Will Colorado be able to put up another defining win streak?

San Diego Padres

In the fifth game of a nine-game road trip and the second game of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals, the San Diego Padres were on fire during a 12-3 win. Catcher Kyle Higashioka went three for five with three RBIs, while Luis Arráez, Jurickson Profar, and Jake Cronenworth had two RBIs apiece. San Diego’s starting pitcher Matt Waldron pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters. With the Padres at 54-50, this team may shape up to be buyers at the MLB Trade Deadline, in hopes of filling every hole in the roster to compete with the Dodgers and other National League contenders in the postseason. The offense could finally be clicking on all cylinders and may try to have a repeat of their performance last night again this regular season.
