Six-Year Veteran Forward Signs Deal Overseas

NBA

During the 2023-2024 regular season, the Detroit Pistons were the worst team in all of basketball by far. They finished with a 14-68 record, and yet ended up with the fifth overall pick during the 2024 NBA Draft. This past season, six-year veteran forward Chimezie Metu was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Detroit Pistons. After playing 14 games in Detroit, the forward’s contract would expire and he would become a free agent. Today, it has been reported that Metu is leaving the NBA to go play in Spain.

The six-year veteran forward started his NBA career off with the San Antonio Spurs being selected as the 49th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He played two seasons in San Antonio before signing a deal with the Sacramento Kings. After three seasons with the Kings, Metu signed with the Phoenix Suns. On February 8th, he was involved in a three-team trade that sent him over to the Memphis Grizzlies, the deal also included the Brooklyn Nets. A day after this trade, Metu was waived by the Grizzlies. Just over a month went by before, the six-year veteran forward signed a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons. Once his 10-day contract expired, Detroit signed Metu for the rest of the season.

Last season in 51 games and in 12 starts with the Phoenix Suns and the Detroit Pistons, Metu played about 17 minutes a night. He averaged just about seven points, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal. This past Christmas, Metu went off in the Suns matchup against the Dallas Mavericks. During a 128-114 loss, the six-year veteran forward recorded 24 points, 19 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. With the …, hopefully, Metu will grow and become more promising for the … bench.
