Longtime Cowboy Secures Another Deal
It has been reported by multiple sources that eight-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith has signed a new deal with the New York Jets. Smith has been one of the most successful offensive tackles in the last decade along with his Pro Bowl selections he has also been named to the First Team All-Pro team two times as well as second team three other times. With the career he has had so far it is almost locked up he will see his name in Canton Ohio one day, but he isn't done yet.
Age and injuries are two words often brought up when talking about him in the past few years. Yet even with these factors when on the field Smith is still just as impressive and dominant at offensive tackle as he was when he was younger. With the Dallas Cowboys this past season, he was great once again posting an 83.2 Pro Football Focus grade. On top of that, the eight-time Pro Bowler only allowed one sack which tied his career best showing his fountain of youth. Smith was huge in the development of Demarco Murrey, Ezekiel Elliot, and now Tony Pollard as he cleared the way for their success in the last decade.
The eight-time Pro Bowler was drafted ninth overall in 2011, this marked the first time Jerry Jones took an offensive lineman in the first round since buying the team in 1989. As well the highest-drafted offensive lineman by the Cowboys since 1965. Yet as his stats show it has most definitely paid off. If you look beyond the injuries and age Smith very well may be the best offensive tackle in the league and for a team like the Jets, it's perfect to have him protecting quarterback Aaron Rodgers blindside. Overall, this will be a huge signing for the Jets and bring a veteran presence in the locker room on top of his All-Pro play.
