Manchester United Women and West Ham Draw; The First Scoreless Game for Man United

Manchester United Women are having a strong 2024–25 season under Marc Skinner, currently sitting third in the Women’s Super League with key wins like a 4–2 Manchester derby triumph and a 3–0 victory over Tottenham. They’ve reached the FA Cup Final, set to face Chelsea on May 18th. The team has combined solid defense with attacking flair, keeping them in the hunt for Champions League qualification. With momentum and belief on their side, United are pushing for silverware and a top-two league finish. Though it seems the Man United Women had hit their first bump in the road. In their most recent game against West Ham United, the two teams finished with a draw. While this isn’t a loss, it’s the first game this season that the team left a game scoreless.

Manchester United Women’s 0–0 draw against West Ham United was a surprising and frustrating result, marking the first time all season they failed to score. The team dominated possession and spent large spells camped in West Ham’s half, but couldn’t convert their control into goals. Despite efforts from Ella Toone, Lucia García, and Elisabeth Terland, United lacked the edge in the final third. The draw was a missed opportunity to keep pressure on the top two in the league standings. While the clean sheet was a small positive, the lack of a score has led to questions ahead of tougher upcoming fixtures. It was a rare off day for one of the league’s most consistent attacking sides in an otherwise impressive campaign.

For their upcoming match against Chelsea, Manchester United Women need to focus on regaining their attacking sharpness after drawing a blank against West Ham, especially against a defensively solid Chelsea side. Controlling the midfield and making the most of quick transitions through players like Ella Toone and Lucia García could be key to breaking Chelsea down. Defensively, United must stay compact and organized to contain Chelsea’s attack. Above all, maintaining composure and mental toughness in a high-pressure game like this one will be vital to getting a positive result.

This upcoming clash with Chelsea is one of Manchester United Women’s most important tests of the season. A strong performance could reignite their push for a top-two finish and build momentum heading into the final stretch. Despite recent setbacks, they’ve shown the quality needed to compete at the highest level. Now, it’s about turning potential into results when it matters most.
