Mets Score 16 Runs in Win over the Braves

MLB

The New York Mets have won three out of their last four games, and recently they just defeated the Atlanta Braves winning two out of three games in the series. However, last night they won their second game in a row by absolutely demolishing the Braves 16-4. New York tacked on seven runs through the first three innings, and then scored another nine runs during the final three innings, securing a huge win over last year’s NL East champions. With the win, the Mets are now 5-7, and with the opportunity to play their next two series in front of the hometown fans, this New York Mets team has a chance to turn things around after a rough start to the new season.

Mets third baseman Brett Baty scored the first run of the game during the top of the first inning when he hit an RBI single to left field. In the next inning, New York’s left fielder Brandon Nimmo hit a rocket out to center field, which ended up being an RBI double. Nimmo would quickly score home, as Mets right fielder Starling Marte hit the ball with some velocity to Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia. The ball flew out of Arcia’s glove and into the outfield, giving the Mets a 3-0 lead. During the top of the third inning, Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez ripped an RBI double into left-center field. The next batter, second baseman Jeff McNeil crushed an RBI double down the right-field line. Mets designated hitter DJ Stewart mangled a two-run home run to right field to give New York a 7-0 lead.

Atlanta finally got on the board during the bottom of the fifth inning when catcher Chadwick Tromp cracked a two-run double into right-center field. Tromp would then score off a wild pitch from Mets starter José Quintana, cutting the Braves deficit to now 7-3. During the top of the seventh inning, Alvarez hit an RBI groundout, and in the next at-bat, McNeil scored two runs off a single into right-center field. In the next inning, Nimmo obliterated an RBI triple to left-center field. Nimmo would come home after Braves reliever Tyler Matzek threw a wild pitch. With runners at the corners during the bottom of the eighth inning, Braves left fielder Adam Duvall hit an RBI single. Pinch-hitting left fielder Tyrone Taylor demolished a grand slam into left field to give the Mets a defining and confident-boosting win.

New York Mets starting pitcher José Quintana pitched five and one third innings allowing three runs on five hits, and two walks while striking out four batters. Braves starter Allan Winans pitched five innings allowing six runs on eight hits, and two walks with a strikeout. Tyrone Taylor’s grand slam would lead him for the night with four RBIs, while Jeff McNeil finished with three RBIs in the win. The Mets will face the Kansas City Royals, and the Pittsburgh Pirates at home for their next two series.
