MLB Trade Deadline: Three Potential Buyers

MLB

With the MLB Trade Deadline just a week away, July 30 at 6 p.m. ET, teams in the playoff race are going to try and bolster their teams as we get closer to November. On the other hand, teams out of contention might trade away some pieces to bolster their farm systems. The MLB Trade Deadline is one of the most exciting times during the season, especially for contending teams. Some teams need pitching, some teams need hitting and some teams need both. We looked at three potential sellers Sunday, so now let’s look at three potential buyers as the deadline creeps closer.

New York Yankees

Even though the Yankees are tied for the most wins in the American League, 60, with division rival Baltimore Orioles, they still have some holes to fill. The Yankees have been on a little bit of a skid for the past month or so. They need help in both their bullpen and in the infield. Gleyber Torres is struggling in a contract year, Ben Rice has struggled since his hot start and the third base platoon of Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu hasn’t worked out great for New York. Some potential targets are Tanner Scott, Ryan McMahon, and Isaac Paredes

San Diego Padres

The Padres, despite somewhat of a slow start, are only 0.5 games out of the National League Wild Card. San Diego could really use a fourth outfielder, one more starter, and a solidified bullpen arm. They have a really good core with Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Dylan Cease, and Xander Bogarts. With this star-studded core, they don’t need much to help push them into the playoffs. Scott is another possible trade piece along with Rays’ outfielder Randy Arozarena.

New York Mets

Similar to San Diego, the Mets are in the midst of a playoff race, sitting in the third National League Wild Card spot. With early struggles putting a possible Pete Alonso trade in question, those questions have been silenced by a recent Mets surge. The Mets have a solid bullpen led by Edwin Diaz, but need to improve there to really compete. They also need some corner outfielders. Similar to San Diego, the Mets could really use Arozarena and Scott, but if they want to keep some top prospects, Tommy Pham could definitely be a solid option.
