NBA Trades Leading Up to This Year's Deadline

NBA

Forward Simone Fontecchio to Detroit

This year’s trade deadline got its first newsbreak yesterday when the Utah Jazz traded forward Simone Fontecchio to the Detroit Pistons for a 2024 second-round pick. Small forward Kevin Knox II, a 2024 second-round pick from the Washington Wizards, and the draft rights to wing Gabriele Procida will also go to Jazz in the deal. This trade will give the Pistons a solid player in Fontecchio, who is averaging nearly nine points per game in his 50 games played this year and can do nothing but help the Pistons reach better heights than their current 7-43 record.

Forward Xavier Tillman to Boston

The Memphis Grizzlies traded forward Xavier Tillman to the Boston Celtics for power forward Lamar Stevens and two second-round picks. The Celtics get a reliable forward here in Tillman, who is averaging six points per game on the season, who can do nothing but help them off the bench in what will most likely be a deep playoff run for them this postseason.

Point Guard Monte Morris to Minnesota

The Detroit Pistons traded point guard Monte Morris to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for small forward Troy Brown, shooting guard Shake Milton, and a 2030 second-round pick. This trade will give the Timberwolves a great backup point guard in Morris who, while he isn't having his best season, might make a resurgence to his old self in a new environment. The Pistons land Brown and Milton who both have a lot of potential should they be put in the right situation which will hopefully be with Detroit.

Shooting Guard Buddy Hield to Philadelphia

The Indiana Pacers started today’s trade news with a bang when they traded shooting guard Buddy Hield to the Philadelphia 76ers. In return, the 76ers sent them small forward Marcus Morris Sr., shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round picks. This trade’s main purpose of course is to give the 76ers another scorer while MVP candidate center Joel Embiid is out with his lateral meniscus left knee injury and beyond and it will sure do that as Hield is averaging 12 points a game this season.

Power Forward Kelly Olynyk to Toronto

Power forward Kelly Olynyk was traded alongside guard Ochai Agbaji to the Raptors for point guard Kira Lewis Jr., small forward Otto Porter Jr., and a 2024 first-round pick. This trade will give the Raptors a solid big man in Olynyk who is averaging eight points a game this year and will be sure to give them some very useful minutes down the stretch of the season.

Small Forward Daniel House Jr. to Detroit

The Philadelphia 76ers traded small forward Daniel House Jr. and a 2024 second-round pick via the New York Knicks to the Detroit Pistons. The driving force behind this trade was for the Sixers to get the salary cap room necessary to sign potential buyout players after the trade deadline. It has been announced to the NBA world that the 76ers have a strong interest in veteran point guard Kyle Lowry should he become available if a contract buyout happens between him and Charlotte.

Small Forward Gordon Hayward to Oklahoma City

The Charlotte Hornets made their first trade move earlier today by trading small forward Gordon Hayward to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder sent point guard Tre Mann, small forward Davis Bertans, guard Vasilije Micic, and draft compensation to Charlotte in return. Hayward will be sure to give the Thunder a reliable bench option and a little bit of veteran leadership on and off the court this season when he returns from the calf injury that has kept him sidelined since December 26th of this season. The Hornets are hopeful that Tre Mann, while he has only averaged nearly four points per game this season due to limited minutes as a result of the Thunder having so many talented guards, will develop into a solid backup point guard to star starting point guard LaMelo Ball on their roster.

Center Daniel Gafford to Dallas

The Washington Wizards are trading center Daniel Gafford, who is having an outstanding but quiet season with the Wizards averaging nearly 11 points and eight rebounds, to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for forward Richaun Holmes and a 2024 first-round pick from Dallas via the Thunder. Gafford will join forces with current Mavericks’ rookie center Dereck Lively II to give Dallas two young big men with incredible upsides.

Shooting Guard Alec Burks, Small Forward Bojan Bogdanovic to New York, Shooting Guard Quentin Grimes to Detroit

The New York Knicks just might be the winners of the trade deadline so far as they were able to get shooting guard Alec Burks and small forward Bojan Bogdanovic from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for shooting guard Quentin Grimes, shooting guard Evan Fournier, point guard Malachi Flynn, guard Ryan Arcidiacono, and two future second-round picks. This trade is huge for New York who will need veteran Burks and Bogdanovic to assist point guard Jalen Brunson immediately led the Knicks to more victories while starters OG Anunoby, Mitchell Robinson, and Julius Randle are all out due to various injuries. While some New York fans may be sad to see Grimes go it was time for a fresh start as his stats are all down from last season.

Point Guard Dennis Schroder to Brooklyn, Point Guard Spencer Dinwiddie to Toronto

The Toronto Raptors traded point guard Dennis Schroder and power forward Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for point guard Spencer Dinwiddie. The Raptors most likely moved starter Schroder here as a result of the recent star guard they picked up in Immanuel Quickley. Dinwiddie will give the Raptors still a very solid experienced guard to go alongside Quickley and shooting guard RJ Barrett to hopefully get something good cooking in Toronto. The Nets land a very solid veteran guard here in Schroder who can hopefully help the Nets win a few more games as they have lost 15 of their last 20 heading into this deadline.

Power Forward P.J. Washington to Dallas, Power Forward Grant Williams to Charlotte

The Charlotte Hornets traded power forward P.J. Washington to the Dallas Mavericks earlier today in exchange for power forward Grant Williams, shooting guard Steph Curry, and a first-round pick. While there were rumors these two guys, P.J. Washington, and Grant Williams, would be traded for each other before this season, after each has not had the seasons their respective organizations were hoping for, each team is hoping their new team will be a better fit.

Power Forward Royce O’Neale to Phoenix

The Brooklyn Nets are trading veteran power forward Royce O’Neale to the Phoenix Suns as part of a three-way trade where the Suns will also receive forward David Roddy from the Grizzlies in the deal. The Grizzlies will receive a future pick swap in the deal as well as small forward Yuta Watanabe. The Nets are the third team in the deal that will receive three future second-round picks and salaries that are TBD. O’Neale and Roddy, averaging nearly seven points and almost eight points a game, will provide the Suns with two great bench options that will give them important minutes down the stretch this year.

Point Guard Patrick Beverly to Milwaukee

The Philadelphia 76ers traded veteran point guard Patrick Beverly to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for point guard Cam Payne and a 2027 second-round pick. In this trade, the Bucks land a defensive problem in Beverly who will without a doubt benefit the organization throughout the rest of the regular season and the playoffs as the Milwaukee Bucks try to compete for yet another NBA Championship.

Small Forward Doug McDermott to Indiana

The San Antonio Spurs traded small forward Doug McDermott to the Indiana Pacers for a future second-round pick via the Clippers and Marcus Morris. McDermott, averaging 6 points this season, will give Indiana a reliable bench piece for the remainder of the season.
