Speedster Wideout “Hollywood” Brown Signs with the Chiefs
Entering free agency for the first time in his career, elusive wideout Marquise “Hollywood'' Brown has found his new home, as he has signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite putting up his least productive season thus far in his career in 2023, the Chiefs were willing to place their bets on Brown to have himself a comeback season in 2024-25 for their wide receiving core. Brown’s elusive ability and deep shot threat made himself an attractive draft pick coming out of Oklahoma in 2019. Thus, the Chiefs will be relying on Brown to get back to his playmaking abilities this upcoming season.
Brown, who was drafted in 2019 by the Baltimore Ravens, was quick to make his presence known on the NFL level, as Brown put on a show in his NFL debut against the Miami Dolphins, with Brown having four receptions for 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns. With the Ravens, Brown was quarterback Lamar Jackson’s top target in the offense during his time in Baltimore. In his three-year tenure with the Ravens, Brown accumulated 195 receptions for 2,361 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns. In 2021, Brown racked up a career-high 1,008 receiving yards, which made him the ninth receiver in Ravens’ history to total 1,000 + receiving yards in a single season.
Despite his highly productive 2021 season with the Ravens, the first-round pick made known his displeasure regarding his role within the offensive scheme of former Ravens’ offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who put his priority on the run game before the passing game. With this dissatisfaction and the Ravens’ reluctance to pick up his fifth-year option, Brown was traded to the Arizona Cardinals on Day One of the 2022 NFL Draft, which reunited him with his college quarterback Kyler Murray. During his two-year stint with the Cardinals, Brown totaled 118 receptions for 1,283 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. In 2023, Brown’s season was held back due to a lingering heel injury, which impacted his availability, as he only played in 14 games last season. With his brand-new contract finalized, Brown will now turn his attention to returning to his healthy form and providing the Chiefs with a boost in the 2024-25 season.
