Powerful Packer Resigns

NFL

It has been reported that the Green Bay Packers used their rare four-year Qualifying Offer on former Boston College running back AJ Dillon. This past season Dillon suffered a career-low 3.4 yards per carry even with usual starter Aaron Jones out for a good portion of the year. In his career, Dillon has been known as a bruising runner with some of the strongest legs in the entire NFL. He has always been the second option and only when Jones has been hurt has gotten the start in his first four years. While he has definitely shown some flashes many people around the NFL feel that he never really reached what he was capable of being.

Dillon this past season ran for 613 total rushing yards while also contributing 223 yards through the receiving game. Neither of these were career highs for him in what was a huge year to determine his future with the Packers, or even to have a solid role on any team. He has proven enough however and shown glimpses and that’s why the Packers decided to bring him back. One of Dillons’ best games came against the Titans back in his rookie season where people thought he was the next big star at the running back position. In that game in 2020, he would go for over 120 yards and two touchdowns in a dominant win over the Titans. Yet three years later this very well may still be the best game of his career.

Dillon will look to build off his past years and hopefully enter the conversation to be the Packers running back one at the start of the regular season. Even if he is not the starter Dillon will provide great goal-line services and will be someone who can always be trusted with the ball. Overall, the Green Bay Packers did the right thing by bringing AJ back.
