Young Offensive Tackle with Loads of Potential Agrees to Deal with the Eagles

NFL

24-year-old offensive tackle Mekhi Becton has been a part of the New York Jets organization for the past four seasons. The 2023 season didn’t go the way the Jets hoped for as they missed the playoffs once again. Becton would hit the free agent market, looking for a team to call home for the next several years. Today, it was announced the offensive tackle with loads of potential has agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. This deal will hopefully ensure Becton’s NFL career for the time being.

Becton played three years at the University of Louisville before declaring for the NFL Draft in 2020. During his time with the Louisville Cardinals, he was named to the first-team All-ACC in 2019. He was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 Draft, after showcasing his loads of potential throughout his college career, and at the NFL Combine. Since being a member of the Jets, Mekhi has had his trouble with injuries. Becton only played one game during the 2021 season due to cartilage damage. The young offensive tackle was ruled out for four to six weeks, but he was placed on the injured reserve list and did not play another game that season.

Mekhi did not play a game of the 2022 season, as he fractured his kneecap and had season-ending surgery. Last season, Becton only played in nine games, this time it was an ankle injury that set him back. This is a young offensive tackle with loads of potential, if he can get rid of the injury bug, he could have a chance to prove himself even more, not only to his Eagles teammates but to the entire league. Look for Mekhi Becton to try and make a strong impression for the 2024 season.
