New York Football Giants Week Two Preseason Preview

NFL

The New York Football Giants had a stellar first game in the preseason for Week One. This coming week is about to get more interesting for New York, and it will only get better from here as the Giants will take on The Houston Texans this week at 1 P.M. on Saturday, August 17th. They will not be starting any of their starters, just as they did during their first preseason matchup. New York has a decent record against the Houston Texans. In all the times the two teams have played, the Giants have a 5-1 record. This match-up should be the same as any of the other games they have played against one another because of how many times the Giants have come through to beat the Texans.

The Giants' offensive and defensive lines look sharp, and they showed in Week One. Newcomers, Malik Nabers, Tyler Nubin, Andru Phillips, Theo Johnson, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Darius Muasau each got to show their talents. During both the preseason and the regular season, these rookies will be what the Giants need for the upcoming season. New York needs to make the plays happen, and from what we saw in Week One, these guys know how to make the ball move down the field. This rookie season should be one that this team will remember going forward.

Nabers has always been an explosive receiver. He has a record of 44 receptions and 20-plus yards from his last two seasons. He did great things at LSU and will continue to do so with the Giants. Nabers has always had impressive numbers and will likely be Jones' main target during this regular season. He made it happen during Week One and will continue for the rest of the NFL year.

Nubin has always been considered a top safety whenever and wherever he has played football. He stops and runs on instinct and ensures no one gets by to cover the back end. As he gets better, he'll be a great asset to the Giants and all the other teams he has and will play for. He has played in 55 games in total. He has a set record of 13 interceptions overall and made 207 tackles. The Giants should not doubt how great he will be on their defensive line this season.

Phillips is what the Giants need: a perfect cornerback. He led all SED cornerbacks in 2023 with top 23 defensive stops. In his total football career, he has made 71 tackles. That is a significant amount for a cornerback to have. Phillips is another rookie asset that New York has gained.

Johnson is a brand-new tight end for the Giants and is already making strides. During his last two seasons, he generated a top-best 146.6 passer rating. He has amassed a total of 669 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. This season, it should be no different for him when he plays on the Giants. His rookie season should be one of the best on this team.

Tracy Jr. got to show off what he had in Week One. He's recovered a 4.48-second 40-yard dash. He has already brought explosiveness to the Giants, as it is. He played in Iowa for six seasons and came to the Giants with a handful of 146 career rush attempts. Another great asset that the Giants need.

Muasau is a full-on, well-rounded linebacker. He's making stops to everyone who gets in his way. During his time at UCLA and Hawaii, he racked up 137 stops. He's already a core player for the team. Muasau doesn't let anything get by him. Playing in 63 games during his college career, the Giants made a great choice in picking him for this season.

Each of these rookies got the chance to show off what they had during Weeks One and Two, and they should be able to show off a little bit more when playing against Houston this coming week. The Giants rebuilt their offensive and defensive lines with these players, which they have gained among the other team members they already have.

Other players like Eric Gray had the chance to make things happen for the Giants, too. Gray stood out during the game with his explosive run, which generated the first two touchdowns of the Season for New York. With Gray starting in this game, he should be just as great as others who have made things happen. He had a breakthrough during week one and hopefully he will be able to continue his streak. He was the guy everyone was looking towards during the game. This season, he will most likely have his breakout. If he keeps going the way that he does, he will definitely be the team’s next Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr. because he matches the speeds that these two former Giants players have. He should be able to work well with other players such as Brian Burns, Devin Singletary, and many others he will be playing with this season. Each of their talents is just the same, if not more.

New backup quarterback Drew Lock went out in Week One with a hip injury. It remains to be seen if he will return for the rest of the preseason and the start of the regular season. That being said, Tommy DeVito will start for the Giants this coming week, along with the rest of the rookies and members who played in last week's game. DeVito is another great asset that this team will have this coming season. He does everything that Daniel Jones can do. However, he does it faster than he can. Fans will be able to see more of it in Week Two. It is something to look forward to.
