New York’s Cinderella Story Gears Up for Next Chapter

NFL

The Giants’ third-string quarterback, Tommy DeVito, has been awfully quiet during this season so far. As of this week, it had been a whole year since he made his debut on the field for the Giants. He instantly became a fan favorite to many fans in New York. However, there may be a chance that he will be able to take another step back onto the field.

The Giants have started the process to let their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, go at the end of the season. They want to have this team rebuilt and looking better than ever before the start of next season. Jones is not it for them at all and it has been proven over and over again. If the case is that Jones will be benched at the end of the season, both Drew Lock and DeVito will step in to take his place. Lock will start in for Jones and DeVito will become number two again.

However, fans want to see him make his return. DeVito was the one who won several games for the Giants from mid-November last year to December when the season came to a close. The longest win streak the Giants had in a long time since Jones became the starting quarterback. DeVito carried the Giants during this time period.

If Jones continues to be as inconsistent as he has been through the last several games, fans will get their wish. He has thrown six touchdown passes and five interceptions in eight starts. He has been one of the many reasons that the Giants have struggled this season. They keep starting him in each game and they are going to continue starting him in the game against the Panthers this weekend. There is a possibility that he may not be starting after the bye week for the Giants in two weeks.

DeVito's stats are currently at 246 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Truly remarkable for a backup and a third-string quarterback. He gave the team the spark again that it needed. He understands the Giants system and knows how to make things happen on the field. He gets the ball out quicker and can do what the other quarterbacks can do too. He’s been sitting all season but he doesn’t mind, he’s ready for anything.

That said, both Lock and DeVito are on the block to go into free agency after the season is over. DeVito has hopes for the future that he will land someplace just as good as he did with the Giants. He was undrafted out of Illinois when the Giants picked him up. He just has to prove once again the type of player that he is and which he has always been.
