Nine-Year Guard Signs Deal with the Suns

NBA

Tyus Jones just officially signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Phoenix Suns. The 28-year-old point guard is coming off the best season in his nine-year NBA career where he averaged 12 points and seven assists a night and was insanely efficient shooting nearly 49% from the field and 41% from behind the arc. While most people may know Jones exclusively for being one of the best point guards in the country during his career with the Duke Blue Devils as he helped the team win an NCAA Championship in 2015, he has had a very solid NBA career. Unfortunately, his teams have just not been in the spotlight for his game to get recognized.

Jones wasn’t a free agent that has been getting talked about daily in free agency this summer. Still, he could be a very important piece for a team and that is exactly what he is going to be for the Suns. While he did play for one of the worst teams in the NBA this past season, the Washington Wizards, in a season full of losing streaks only winning 15 games the whole year, he was the team’s only point guard. With this being the case, he played a much more crucial role in helping the Wizards win those 15 games than people realize.

In Washington, Jones showed exactly what he was capable of when he got the chance as it was the first time in his NBA career he was not sharing minutes with another point guard on his roster. As he heads to Phoenix to join the Suns, he will take the court alongside teammates Devin Booker and Bradley Beal in hopes of playing their best basketball possible. One thing the Suns can be sure they are getting in Jones is high-IQ basketball. As he takes the court in Phoenix, he will shoot the ball efficiently, make the right plays, and get his teammates involved at any point possible.
