No Hutchinson, No Problem

NFL

Aidan Hutchinson was the backbone of the Detroit Lions' defense, leading the league with 7.5 sacks before his injury. Since then, the Lions have adapted well, going 2-0, including the game where he was hurt. Their ability to adjust quickly has kept them competitive. The Detroit Lions have proven to be a resilient team capable of adapting to adversity.

Lions vs. Cowboys

The best word to describe the matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions in Week Six would be embarrassing. The Lions dominated the Cowboys.  By the time the score hit 34-6, it was clear that the Lions were going to win. It was at this point, however, that Hutchinson fractured his fibula and tibia trying to tackle Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. This injury was gruesome, and there was no telling how long he would be out. However, the Lions held on to win 47-9. They scored 13 more points after Hutchinson went out, and they only gave up three points. The Lions proved that they could be resilient even with a hole in their defense.

Lions vs. Vikings

The Vikings were 5-0 coming into this game, while the Lions were 4-1. They were both at the top of the NFC North division. The game was a shootout until the final plays. With less than two minutes left, the score was 28-29. The Lions moved the ball down the field. With about 1:20 left, Jared Goff threw a check-down pass to Jahmyr Gibbs, who took the ball from the 50 to the 35, which was within field goal range. The Lions continued running the ball down the field until Jake Bates kicked the game-winner. The final score was 31-29. The Lions did not seem to need Hutchinson.

What This Means

Aidan Hutchinson is still the backbone of the Detroit Lions’ defense. He just needs to get healthy again. Recent talks have insinuated that Hutchinson could be back in time for the Super Bowl if the Lions can get there. However, for now, the Detroit Lions have continued to dominate. The Detroit Lions are a resilient team that has responded to adversity well.
