Prescott Leads Cowboys to TNF Victory Over Seahawks
In a high-scoring affair, the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks kicked off Week 13 in a thrilling manner, as the Cowboys won their fourth straight and 14th straight game at home with a 41-35 victory over the Seahawks. The victory gave Dallas their first win against a team this season with a .500 or better record percentage. The Cowboys enter a tough stretch of games where their next four opponents (Eagles, Bills, Dolphins, and Lions) have a combined record of 32-13, as they aim to keep pace with the Eagles for the NFC East division crown. Let’s take a look at how the Cowboys were able to pull off their ninth victory of the season.
The Cowboys got the scoring underway on their first drive of the game which led them to the Seahawks' two-yard line, but they had to settle for a chip shot 30-yard field goal from kicker Brandon Aubrey to take a 3-0 lead. The Seahawks would answer back immediately on their first drive with a quick slant to wide receiver D.K. Metcalf that resulted in Metcalf splitting past defenders for a 73-yard touchdown into the endzone for a 7-3 Seahawks lead. The corresponding drive by the Cowboys resulted in them taking a 10-7 lead following a 15-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. In the second quarter, the Cowboys would extend their lead to 17-7 following a 7-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Cooks. The Seahawks would cut the deficit to 17-14 following a one-yard run by running back Zach Charbonnet mid-way in the second quarter. The Cowboys would respond with a 31-yard field goal by Aubrey on their next drive to extend the lead to 20-14 with 1:30 left in the half. With no timeouts, the Seahawks managed to score a go-ahead touchdown with four seconds left in the half following a one-yard touchdown pass to Metcalf to take a 21-20 lead at halftime.
The Seahawks began the second half with possession of the football and made a statement drive to extend their lead to 28-20 following a 5-yard touchdown scramble by quarterback Geno Smith. The Cowboys would respond with a touchdown drive of their own that ended in a six-yard run by running back Tony Pollard to cut the deficit to 28-27 late in the third quarter. To begin the fourth quarter, the Seahawks would extend their lead to 35-27 following a three-yard touchdown pass to Metcalf that was set up by the Cowboys turning the ball over on downs. The Cowboys would respond with a 38-yard field goal by Aubrey to cut the deficit to 35-30 with 11 minutes left in the game. Following a turnover on downs by Seattle, the Cowboys would start their corresponding drive in excellent field position, which developed into a touchdown drive ending in a 12-yard pass to tight end Jake Ferguson to take a 38-35 lead with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks would turn it over on downs again, which resulted in the Cowboys expanding their lead to 41-35 following a 32-yard field goal by Aubrey with two minutes left in the game. The Cowboys’ defense would shut the door on Seattle’s comeback attempt by holding strong on a fourth down to close out the game.
In the game, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott put on display one of his best performances of the season going 29 for 41, with 299 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Cowboys got major production from wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson. Lamb ended the game with 12 receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown, while Ferguson had six receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown as well. Despite the loss, Seahawks’ quarterback Geno Smith had a productive game going 23 for 41, with 334 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. The Seahawks were able to keep it close with the Cowboys in large part due to wide receiver, D.K. Metcalf, who hauled in three touchdowns on six receptions for 134 yards. The Seahawks will look to avoid dropping their fourth straight game when they go on the road to face the 49ers next week, as the Cowboys will square off against the Eagles in a primetime matchup on Sunday night football.
