Reds Take Their Fifth Win on the Road in San Francisco
During the second game of their three-game series in San Francisco, the Cincinnati Reds pulled out a 1-0 win against the Giants to obtain their fifth win on the season. Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo allowed just three hits in six innings to pick up the win. The last game of this series will take place Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. EST. If Cincinnati can achieve another win on the road, it will move them up to third place within the NL Central. The fourth-place Reds are currently a half game behind the St. Louis Cardinals, a game and a half behind the Milwaukee Brewers, and three games behind the 9-5 Chicago Cubs.
Gavin Lux picked up the first hit of the day during the top of the second inning, but it wouldn’t amount to much as Jeimer Candelario hit into a double play. Casey Schmitt recorded the first hit for San Francisco in the bottom of the second with a double to left field. Cincinnati knocked in the only run of the day during the top of the third. Spencer Steer doubled on a line drive to left field. In the next at-bat, Jake Fraley hit a single to center which put Steer on third base. Then, Fraley stole second. Catcher Jose Trevino knocked a ground ball to Giants shortstop Willy Adames, but this allowed Steer to score. Cincinnati could not capitalize with Fraley on third. TJ Friedl grounded out to first, and Blake Dunn flew out to center field. Both of these teams went back and forth with each other during the middle innings, each recording base hits, but no runs coming across. As the game headed to the final innings, the Giants could not find a way to score. With their last licks at the bottom of the ninth, Jung Hoo Lee, Matt Chapman, and Wilmer Flores all flew out from pitches by Emilio Pagán to close the game out with a score of 1-0.
Lodolo picked up his second win of the season. Landen Roupp took his first loss of the 2025 regular season giving up one run on seven hits. The Reds had eight hits and an error during their fifth win of the season while the Giants only recorded four in the loss. Lux and Steer went two-for-four during the win, while Trevino did not pick up a hit, but had the game-winning run with his groundout RBI in the top of the third. With this well-needed win, can the Reds continue to build momentum?
