San Francisco 49ers Season Preview

NFL

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a Super Bowl loss and have unfinished business to take care of. Despite his draft status as the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Brock Purdy does not get the credit that he deserves. He has a 17-4 record as a starter. Throwing for over 4,000 yards and 31 touchdowns on nearly 70 percent completion is excellent quarterback play regardless of the circumstances or draft status.

The duo of Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel provide a unique offensive scheme. McCaffrey is a running back who is excellent on passes out of the backfield. Samuel is a wide receiver who is excellent at making plays on the ground from motion offense. George Kittle is arguably the best two-way tight end with the ability to run after the catch and make blocks in the run game.

The Niners’ strength is their front four. Led by Nick Bosa, the Niners generate constant pressure without having to send heavy blitzes. Their weak link in the secondary is their man-to-man defense. They are getting All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga back from a torn ACL. Hufanga had three interceptions last year.

The Niners are loaded on both sides of the ball and their title window is still open as some of their top players are still in their prime. The Niners have made four NFC Conference Championship appearances in five years. This is a team that has been one or two plays in two Super Bowl appearances in the last five years from winning it all. They have all the tools to finish business; it’s about making the one or two plays to win.
