Should Matthew Stafford Be a Giant?
Rumors are currently flying around the NFL. The biggest ones catching the attention of many fans and franchises are Matthew Stafford and the New York Giants. Many fans have taken to social media to suggest quarterbacks that the Giants could pick up. In recent months, there has been talk of Bryce Young and many other quarterbacks stepping into the current position. Many Big Blue fans are currently looking toward the Rams' current quarterback. Some ideas about this starting quarterback becoming a Giant have been thrown around.
The Giants are contemplating the future of their quarterback position. They have dealt with a struggling Daniel Jones for several seasons, and their current standing with him is 1-14 in primetime games. The Giants have a potential path to release Jones after the 2024 season. This will save them room in the salary cap of about $19 million. The Giants have been assessing his performance, which hasn’t been great thus far. He has improved for the last several games, but not enough to salvage his current stance with the team.
Many fans have been uncertain about Stafford's case. He has done well but not as well as fans want. However, anything above Jones would be an upgrade at this point. Joe Schoen will most likely look into this deal. Today, management has been touching base on how they would work it out. However, they currently want to involve Jones in the matter.
Stafford becoming a Giant wouldn’t be such a bad idea. He would enhance the team's performance, which would indeed be a good thing for them. As many are against it, the team truly needs it. The other option would be to wait for a trade-in during the 2025 NFL Draft. The trade is seen as unfeasible at this point in the season, but if the Giants can pull it off to get a better spot in the draft, they will. The Giants are facing a significant decision regarding quarterbacks. They are trying to balance the benefits of acquiring Stafford while also needing to draft a long-term franchise quarterback.
