Should The Giants Draft a Wide Receiver?
The Giants may not be going with a quarterback in the first round of this year's draft. They may make the decision to pick out someone else who they believe will help out with their team. After signing two veteran quarterbacks, there has been a lot of talk about what the Giants might do with their draft pick. The Giants may pick up linebacker Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. The Giants have been keeping their eyes on Hunter more often than not.
The Giants may be looking at this college football player who currently plays cornerback and wide receiver for the University of Colorado. He has excelled in both of the positions while he has played on the field. A lot of the teams who have been watching him want to step in to be their new cornerback, but with New York, they may put him in as both if they do take him on. They have not made any additions to the new starters except for the quarterback position, however, they have been primarily used on restocking the second line this season.
Hunter played 1,450 snaps during his last season, which is the most in college football. He had 96 catches for 1,258 yards, and 15 touchdowns as a receiver and has gone for an additional four as a cornerback when needed. During his college career, he has also won the Heisman Trophy. He knows what to do and how to play the game, an area where the Giants need to build upon. Hunter also makes himself involved and proves himself on the field when he gets playtime in. The Giants have been happy with what they have seen with him on the tapes.
Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen have been keeping an eye on him. Hunter has been ranked a top non-quarterback to be drafted in the upcoming draft. They like what they see in him. Daboll and Schoen both believe that he will be an immediate boost on both the offensive and defensive line if they get him onto the roster during the draft. Putting him and Malik Nabers together on the field would look a lot better for the team.
They are up in the air about a quarterback. The Giants will not open up about their plans and keep the franchise and everyone in suspense. However, it sounds as if the Giants may be set on picking Hunter up in the draft. This wide receiver may be the guy that they take but many are sitting back and waiting until April 24th to catch what decision they are going to make.
